Discover, connect and control SMPTE 2110 workflows, inside your control system.
In an IP-native broadcast or live event production environment, control isn't cabled β it's networked. Thousands of senders and receivers, SMPTE ST 2110 flows, a discovery problem every operator knows. The Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS) β developed and maintained by AMWA β solve it. SP Grid's job is to put NMOS discovery and connection control inside the show-control environment that's already running cameras, tracking, lighting LED processors and media servers.
What the NMOS Controller brings in
The NMOS Controller ships with Official Extension status in SP Grid β a Grid Studio plugin speaking directly to the core NMOS specifications:
- IS-04 Node API β Devices, Sources, Flows, Senders and Receivers fetched from each Node and stored as first-class entities in Grid Studio, keyed by NMOS ID so duplicate labels never collide.
- Zeroconf (mDNS/DNS-SD) β nodes appear automatically under Discovery/Nodes/.
- IS-05 Connection API β sender-to-receiver routing from inside the control platform, using each sender's /transportfile (SDP) to derive RTP transport parameters cleanly, with receiver constraints respected.
- IS-12 / NCP β optional device control when nodes advertise it in device controls.
Why this matters
Discovery and routing stop being a separate console. Senders and receivers become cueable state, just like Dante domains or LED processing. Making and breaking connections happens from the operator's Grid Viewer tablet, or Grid Studio interface. Constraint-aware transport-parameter selection stops RTP negotiations from failing silently. And because the plugin is Node APIβbased, adding a new NMOS vendor to the stack doesn't require a new integration β the standard is the integration.
Where this fits
IP-native infrastructures. Remote-production workflows. OB trucks consolidating NMOS with SDI and NDI. XR and VP stages where SMPTE ST 2110 underpins the network. Large-event productions with multi-vendor devices β Eurovision Song Contest 2024 ran on exactly this kind of IP-networked fabric, where protocol accuracy across departments is non-negotiable.
