Immersive dining experiences trust in SP Grid for effortless automation and user-friendly control

Many restaurants claim to transport their visitors on a gastronomic journey, but few do so quite as literally as Eatrenalin. Located in Europa-Park Resort, Rust, Eatrenalin invites diners to step aboard its ‘floating chairs’ and be physically transported between different themed worlds, crafting a one-of-a-kind dining experience that has already received multiple awards for its unique concept. To achieve this vision, Eatrenalin worked with the full-service experience creation company, bright! studios to build an AVLM control system in the auxiliary areas, such as the lounge and bar. bright! studios leaned on the technology integration capabilities of SP Grid to build the system.

“The restaurant concept was the fusion of top-tier cuisine with visual, audio, scent and even haptic cues, such as the seats moving, to create a realistic multi-sensory journey,” explains Patrick Lenkeit at bright! studios. “Whilst the experience itself is driven by industry-standard show control systems, this approach wouldn’t have been suitable for the lounge and bar areas, as those are being operated by non-technical users and also integrate with some of the building automation systems. At the same time, SP Grid offers a good value and scalable approach to projects like this, since it’s software-based.”

Control of these areas required a lot of technical integration in the background to realise, incorporating various device commands and actions into a single flow of events. SP Grid helped bright! to create a very user-friendly interface for restaurant staff to operate the system every day. The ability to build custom UIs in SP Grid was a critical benefit for this project. SP Grid allows bright! to design intuitive, branded interfaces tailored to non-technical users, whilst giving greater access to technical teams when needed.

“There is a small SP Grid touch panel behind the bar and another at reception,” continues Lenkeit. “Each one runs its own branded UI with just the controls relevant to that area, but there’s also a hidden menu where you can access more system controls. It’s clean, intuitive, and all built within SP Grid.”

The close level of integration between SP Grid and its dedicated Grid Touch panels provides an approachable point of access for users and a reliable connection between an everyday control interface and a complex, sophisticated project file in SP Grid, with multiple layers of technology, control and automation.

“The lighting control system designed and installed by bright! studios plays a central role in overall experience at the Eatrenalin restaurant,” confirms Felix Heuberger, COO at Eatrenalin.

“The system provides holistic control of the lighting across all areas and scenes, ensuring that each room’s atmosphere is perfectly aligned with our operational and creative requirements. We are particularly satisfied with the uniform and user-friendly control interface, which allows our team to manage complex lighting scenarios easily and reliably via touch panels. The intuitive operation significantly simplifies daily use while maintaining a high level of flexibility. In addition, the collaboration with bright! studios was highly professional and efficient. Their deep understanding of our needs and their attention to detail resulted in a system that not only meets but exceeds our expectations in terms of usability, consistency, and ambience quality.”

Ultimately, the combination of SP Grid’s powerful tools for automation, user interface creation and connected hardware has allowed Eatrenalin to deliver a dining experience unlike any other. Whilst guests are immersed in a world of flavours, scents, captivating visuals and motion, staff can operate a highly complex technical system with just the flick of a switch. “With the custom UI features in SP Grid, we are encouraged to use it as a solution in less technical spaces, such as Eatrenalin and other hospitality experiences,” confirms Lenkeit. “This opens up so many opportunities, and our work at Eatrenalin is a great example of how SP Grid can be used in AV environments as a scalable, user-friendly control system.”
